Statement

This statement (300 words or less) could include qualifications, convictions, thoughts on issues, concerns, etc.

South Georgia Annual Conference--

I am a deeply committed Christ follower. I am an evangelical orthodox Wesleyan that holds firmly to the primacy of scripture in determining our doctrine and theology. I am a traditionalist with respect to the issues of the day, but I work leading one of the most diverse Districts of our Annual Conference. I work well and lovingly with a wide variety of folks and know what it means to respect differing opinions. I also believe that we must do so lovingly without sacrificing the standards of Scripture or our Wesleyan heritage and tradition.

I understand the concept of contextualization and have indeed lived it through service with the Mission Society serving our Latin American brothers and sisters. I know first-hand what it means for us to truly work together with our international brothers and sisters as we move forward into a Global Methodism that is not based primarily on US cultural values but upon a common understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Multiculturalism is not the same thing as theological plurality.

The Methodist movement is growing by leaps and bounds internationally. We must work together to recapture the fervor, commitment, and orthodoxy that is so vibrantly expressed in our international Methodist movement to create renewal for the people called Methodists here. The time has come for us to return to being a movement. The General Conference has rightly spoken repeatedly and has only strengthened its stance with the Traditional Plan. I am committed to moving that plan forward. I am also committed to helping all people called Methodists to finding their place in a renewed Methodist movement.
