Statement

This statement (300 words or less) could include qualifications, convictions, thoughts on issues, concerns, etc.

I love our Lord, and I love our church. I am grateful for our global church and witness. Yet I am most committed to Methodism in South Georgia. This is where my heart and ministry lies.

I believe the time for a new version of Methodism is upon us. GC2019 proved our legislative process will not bring unity. Now we must negotiate a new path. Our path must allow pastors and churches to go the direction they feel God is calling them, without forcing others to go with them. We do not need to kick anyone out; we need to bless people and churches and release them as they choose their own path.

I share the same traditional views which undergird much of South Georgia. Human sexuality is not the only issue to address. General church spending must drop. General agencies must shrink. The work and ministry of local churches in their communities must return to the front and center of all that we do.

When on CFA and now as Treasurer, I have worked to reduce conference spending and keep funds in our local churches. I am grateful to be part of paying off pension debt, freeing up funding. Similar innovative thinking is needed to chart our course in the near future.

Every potential delegate should ask, “What do I bring to the table that others aren’t also bringing?” I have been blessed to serve the Lord through our church in many ways. My understanding of funding, of pensions, and of finance could be useful as the General Conference seeks to shape a new path for the church. I appreciate your prayerful consideration.
