This statement (300 words or less) could include qualifications, convictions, thoughts on issues, concerns, etc.

I am a passionate follower of Jesus Christ in the Wesleyan tradition.
As such, I am committed to my baptismal vows “to resist evil, injustice and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves.”
As a chaplain, God has used me to minister in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous contexts and be calm, listening for God’s voice and trusting where God leads. I witnessed the power of diversity when persons are treated with dignity and respect.
One relevant gift I have to offer for this moment in our denomination is experience working in both secular and faith-based institutions at the international, national, and regional levels. In addition, my education, including a doctorate in ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue and a masters in strategic studies, equip and challenge me to think strategically about system-wide change.
I believe that all of scripture declares God’s initiated love and relationship with all humanity and creation. This truth of unmerited grace gives scripture its authority, rather than punitive moralism. Christ Jesus spoke against idolizing scripture while perfectly modeling how to be fully human.
I believe in the teaching and practice of the Wesleyan value of authentic expression of a grace-filled life. This is one of the distinctives of the Methodist movement making it possible to effectively “offer Christ to the world” through word, order, sacrament, and service.
Above all else, I believe that the Gospel calls us to share unconditional love for others. Vote for me to assist in creating an inclusive church – either by reforming the extant UMC or by developing a new Methodism – affirming God’s acceptance of all people.
