This statement (300 words or less) could include qualifications, convictions, thoughts on issues, concerns, etc.

I am a young adult elder in full connection. I support the traditional understanding of marriage and ordination. It is in the deepest love for the United Methodist Church, our disciple-making mission, and all who love the UMC, that I believe the time has come to peacefully divide.

Our disagreements regarding human sexuality have led us to an unsustainable place. We have hurt one another and our mission in the world. It appears we will continue down this path in 2020 unless we prayerfully envision something new. Change like this is hard. It means there will be endings. It also means there will be beginnings, and beginnings bring opportunities.

We have an opportunity to shape expressions of Wesleyan/Methodist Christian ministry for generations to come.

We have the opportunity to:

1) seek resolution to our long-standing disagreements in a loving way by blessing the formation of new denominations;
2) rise above the anxious, reactive rhetoric on all sides, thoughtfully and prayerfully developing these new expressions; and
3) develop a strong foundation for a new traditional, Methodist/Wesleyan church through thoughtful, theological engagement.

I believe a sustainable future lies beyond reactivity and entrenchment.

I believe we have an opportunity to thoughtfully engage what it means to offer Christ to the world while holding to traditionalist understandings of marriage and ordination.

I believe that a traditional Wesleyan/Methodist Christian Church can be a place for all people.

I believe we can offer the world a thoughtful, sustainable model of ministry that can spread scriptural holiness across the world for generations to come.

Beginnings matter. They chart the course for the years to come. Now is the time for new beginnings.

I would be honored to lovingly and respectfully represent these convictions at General Conference 2020. I humbly submit myself for your consideration.
