The dream of my heart is captured by the psalmist in Psalm 85:6, who asked the Lord “will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” I love the communities in South Georgia and pray for true revival – that the Holy Spirit would move mightily – that the lost would be saved and that there would be healing for so much of the brokenness we see daily. As Methodists, we are positioned to be a significant part of such a revival due to the relationships built through our connectional structure and our beautiful theology.

I am a traditionalist with respect to marriage and ordination and will work to maintain our current positions in the Discipline as well as support the election of traditionalist bishops. All of the arguments for changing our sexual ethic are lacking, and I believe that our definition of marriage and ordination standards are in alignment with God’s authoritative Word. Conforming to the pattern of the world would be disastrous, as it has been for multiple other denominations.

I believe it is time for clarity and to stop arguing amongst ourselves and get back to the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. The best way for us to do this is to amicably separate as Paul and Barnabas did in the early days of the church. I will do all I can to help us move forward with love and respect for all.

Years ago, we adopted a vision statement for the South Georgia Conference which stated our desire to be faithful, fruitful, and bold. I humbly believe that boldness in standing for the truth of the gospel is the path of faithfulness, and will lead to great fruitfulness, for the glory of Almighty God!
