Statement
Transferring conferences is never an easy choice. I came to the South Georgia Conference because my wife has family connections here and mostly because I love the people of South Georgia and feel more at home among their traditional views.
With that being said, I would like to be a General Conference delegate because I feel that I can bring to it the experience of serving successfully in two very different, diametrically opposed conferences. I have served alongside of traditionalist and progressives and count people from both camps as friends. I also have the experience of being in leadership of an international renewal organization affiliated with the General Board of Discipleship and can see how the decisions that will need to be made will have ripple effects well beyond what most of us think.
It is no secret that our problems spring from a difference in understanding Biblical authority and interpreting Scripture. It is essential that we find ways avoid winners and losers and separate enough to maintain the integrity of all. I also think that our problems have been compounded by a lack of innovative leadership as well, which is something that is desperately needed in our local churches and conferences too. The church is in need of new leaders who can make the difficult and risky decisions that we need to walk in faithful obedience to God's Spirit and redeem the culture around us.
While this is a critical juncture in our denomination, and while there may have to be some pain and divisions to come, I still believe that our church has a great future. We need courage, obedience to God, and innovative, risk-taking leadership to walk through the days to come. Thank you for the chance to serve and represent you.
